Mesh from Points SubD Surface

SubD technology is to surfaces as interpolation is to curves.

SubD generates smooth, organic surfaces that are mathematically derived.

Perlin noise works well for creating the necessary random surfaces, as the noise is grouped, not random at every point like white noise.

The process is as follows:

  1. Define a U,V mesh.

  2. Use Perlin noise grouped and scaled.

  3. Apply the noise to the Z axis or surface normal.

  4. Rebuild the mesh.

  5. Use Tri-Remesh to clean up any irregular faces.

  6. Use Quad-Remesh to mathematically derive non-faceted faces.

  7. Convert the quad mesh to SubD.

The SubD surface is not faceted. It is mathematical. Where the mesh valence is 4, the surface has G2 continuity (curvature constant at boundary).
